UPDATE: About to finish PGY-3 now and graduate, and just finished taking the board exam this week, 04/12/21 (first attempt; prelim result of pass), so figured I'd update my review on this now that I've competed the exam. I have reduced the rating to 3/5 stars, mainly due to the fact that this book didn't end up being my top resource. The material is accurate and easy to read, and although the topic format was to my liking (see original review below), the actual format of the text was harder to read through than I initially imagined. The book goes through multiple cases per topic, each with successive questions that flesh out each topic (see 2nd image). While question/answer is a great review tool, it was very difficult to do the questions without accidentally seeing the answer choice. Personally, I prefer the traditional approach for textbooks of bullet points or paragraphs about each topic with questions at the end and answers separately. Then I would use dedicated Qbanks for testing. Thus, I ended up using this book very sparingly in my prep, and ended up focusing on QBanks (ie. AAFP questions, past ITEs, UWorld) for my studying. To conclude, if you are the type that benefits from a textbook with a case based, question orientated format, then this review book will work well, but if not, consider looking elsewhere or temper your expectations. Thus, because this book does not apply to everyone, specifically I believe the large majority of people, who prefer information based textbooks (my personal opinion from experience and observations), combined with the fact that I ended up using this very little in my prep, I have reduced my rating to 3/5.Original: Currently a PGY-2 Family Medicine resident and wanted an updated review book that covered the board exam material. This textbook fit that bill perfectly. I was hoping to get a head start on studying so that I wouldn't have to worry about cramming towards the end next year. I've only had the chance to read a little of the book so far but it's layout is great. Topics are by specialty (ie. Emergency medicine, Cards, Pulm, Sports medicine, etc.), which is my preferred way of reading, but I also think it'll be great for rotations since that's how most residency rotations are scheduled. Also throughout each section, they have multiple questions on the side bars that allow for good feedback while you're reading. Will update as I read more, but so far, very happy with my purchase!
